| An England international right-back,
who made his debut against Japan in the 1995 Umbro Cup,
Gary Neville is a product of United's prolific youth
team. Bury-born Gary, who's brother Philip is also in the first team squad, captained the club's 1992 FA Youth Cup-winning side. Gary comes from a sporting family, his sister Tracey being an English netball international. Gary made his debut, aged 17, as a substitute in UEFA cup tie v Torpedo Moscow in September 1992, managing to solve United's right back problem after injury to Paul Parker and a loss of form from David May. Gary also possesses a phenomenal long throw which he uses to great success to get United's attacks moving and set up United's equaliser in the 1995 FA Cup semi-final against Crystal Palace. Gary lost his regular Manchester United place to his brother in 1995-96 but still had an exceptional season filling in anywhere in United's defence. Gary has now won over 20 caps for England, and he won his battle with his brother to be first choice right-back for both club and country. He scored his first ever United goal against Middlesbrough in the Premiership towards the end of the 96/97 season, and that goal effectively won the Championship for United. He now has a two Premiership medals and a FA Cup winners medal in his possession and a brilliant future ahead. |
