| Blomqvist started his career with
hometown club of Umeaa, before moving to Gothenburg in
1993. Whilst at Gothenburg he made his name, becoming established in the Swedish national team. It was at this time that United supporters had there first glimse of Blomqvist in the Champions League. He stood out amongst the disciplined Swedes when playing United in Sweden. Ferguson never forgot the game and tracked the subsequent movements of Blomqvist, trying to buy him from Milan before Parma stepped in. Milan had purchased him for their expansive squad and he made his Serie A debut in December 1996 at the San Siro. Seeing whether Blomqvist can sustain the form he showed against United as he contests the left wing slot with Ryan Giggs is something for United fans to savour. Prior to the 1998/99 season he has played 23 times for Sweden. |
